Summary:
Graphic novel adaptation of Morgan Seliman’s memoir.
Morgan Seliman is a survivor of domestic violence. This memoir reveals the horror and humiliation of what
she and far too many women experience at the hands of abusive partners.
Early in their marriage, Yassine was overly protective of Morgan, but this soon gave way to blatant jealousy, mistrust and eventually violence. Yassine accused Morgan of cheating on him and his punishments worsened when their child was born. Yassine would beat his wife for any “infraction” he deemed unacceptable: a broken egg yolk, dust on the floor, or worse, a disrespectful tone.
The psychological and physical torment continued for years, until Morgan was finally able to find the courage and means to escape her husband with their child. But even after having left she was not completely free.
This graphic novel adaptation of Morgan’s 2015 memoir represents not only the strength of a survivor of domestic abuse, but also the ugly truth of what happens behind closed doors.- Paper copy available:
