  • Summary:

December 1969. Woodstock and the Flower Power wave hit the East Coast a few months earlier, in response, the West Coast in turn decides to turn up the decibels during a festival that dreams of becoming legendary… The biggest stars of the time are to take part, starting with the Rolling Stones as headliners to ignite the stage. Out of the question for Jenny and her friends to miss the concert of the century! They head off from Los Angeles in their Volkswagen bus the air full of ganga. It doesn’t matter if the organization looks a bit over-the-top, what matters is the music! 300,000 people are expected at this peace, love and rock’n’roll event which will finally take place on the Altamont racetrack in Northern California. Shortly after Jenny and her friends arrive the first fight breaks out, which does not bode well: the tension is palpable. Hired to provide security and paid in beer, the Hells Angels begin to drive the crowd away from the stage with bats and chains. As Thomas climbs the scaffolding and Matt gets lost in an acid trip, Leonard realizes they won’t make it out of Altamont unscathed.

It was to be a beautiful, free festival, a celebration of love and sharing. Instead, the Altamont tragedy has become a symbol of the end of an era. Charlie Adlard and Herik Hanna return to this have created a disenchanted portrait of this infamous episode in rock music history of a free and dreamy period, marked by the Vietnam War. Illustrated by the cult cartoonist of The Walking Dead in a vintage style borrowed from pop art, this graphic road-movie that rings true is read in one go, the time of an iconic journey.
