Summary:
The extraordinary true story of a mafia don during the Cuban Revolution.
Cuba 1956. General Fulgencio Batista, a violent and corrupt dictator, has gradually handed Havana over to the American mafia godfathers and made Meyer Lansky his unofficial Gaming Minister. Hotels, cabarets and casinos welcomed thousands of tourists every day, who had come to spend fortunes on gambling, sex and drugs. This is when Lucien Rivard, a Québecois drug trafficker linked to the French Connection, arrived in the Cuban capital. Under the guise of running a nightclub, he was tasked with establishing new routes to sell heroin from Marseille to major American cities. But on the streets of Havana, the student protests were in full force. In retaliation, the capital became the scene of a bloody repression. Meanwhile, the young lawyer, Fidel Castro, now leader of the revolutionary forces, announces that he will free the Cuban people. Despite this highly explosive political context, Lansky and his associates are determined to continue their business. But Lucien Rivard is also an arms dealer, and Castro’s Barbudos, who have taken refuge in the mountains, desperately need arms… The Canadian kingpin finds himself at the heart of the rebellion, embroiled in interests beyond his control and a cause that has nothing to do with him.
